The use of Artificial Intelligence in Business

Hello bloggers I am back with my final blog ☹ , I know some of you will be really upset by that news! Today I’m talking about the use of AI in businesses in the modern day, so let’s begin: The use of AI has become increasingly popular and hot topic in terms of some concerns that can arise from it. However, many businesses are using AI to improve their business and make themselves more technologically advanced.           One of the ways in which businesses use AI is through chatbots. According to a Forbes Advisor survey, over 73% of businesses use or plan to use AI- powered chatbots for instant messaging. This can help build customer relationships as they could potentially have any problem, they have solved at any time of the day with 24-hour assistance. An example of a chat-based system would be ChatGPT which can give you answers to a statement you tell it to do, however it can’t make emotional decisions.           Another popul...

Ethical and Social Challenges of Big Data

Hello bloggers, today I'm highlighting some of the social and ethical challenges of big data!

Invasion of Privacy

The first challenge that I believe Big Data has is that to consumers it can feel like an invasion of privacy. Many consumers of services such as Netflix, Spotify etc. can feel like they are constantly being tracked and have an influence on the consumer that they are always being watched. Consumers like experiences being personalized but not too personal or they start to think that these companies know everything about them. An example of this would be something like a new mother suddenly getting Tesco vouchers in the post that are offers on baby formula or nappies, something like this can be too personal and have the consumer concerned.

Who The Data is Being Shared To

Another challenge I believe around big data is about who the data is being shared to. Many companies share data and often certain consumers data can even be sold to other companies/ people. Consumers may not like this, and it can pose a challenge to companies as many consumers want to know exactly what their data is being used for and exactly who has access to their data. If consumers do not know what their data is being used for or shared to, they may be reluctant in sharing their info/ signing up to services.

Consent Issues

Another issue with big data is around consent. Users of platforms like Netflix, Amazon etc. can begin to be tracked from the moment they have signed up to the service. Consumers can have a lack of informed consent as they may not be aware of the sort of tracking and data collecting that these companies may be able to conduct on them. A lot of the time the information on the data that is being gathered from the users can be hidden away in pages and pages of terms and conditions which consumers are unaware of.

If you enjoyed this blog don't forget to share and comment on your stance on big data. See you next week!
